This elegant late 19th century Hamadan runner was woven in the Hamadan region of western Persia and reflects the distinctive character of traditional Persian village weaving.
The design features a rich terracotta red field organized around a vertical sequence of large, stylized geometric and floral motifs. Rather than a single central medallion, the composition uses repeating blue, green and ivory ornaments to create a strong sense of rhythm along the runner’s elongated format.

The principal motifs combine abstract floral forms, geometric medallions, stylized leaves and branching botanical elements. Their angular drawing and bold outlines give the runner its characteristic Hamadan village aesthetic, while the smaller floral details placed between the major motifs add balance and visual movement.

The composition is enclosed by several decorative borders. The main red border is filled with repeating floral and geometric ornaments, complemented by narrower inner and outer borders in deep blue and red. This layered border arrangement creates a strong frame around the central field and enhances the overall architectural quality of the design.

The color palette is particularly attractive, combining terracotta red, deep indigo blue, muted green, ivory, salmon, ochre and touches of brown. The naturally aged dyes have developed a beautiful antique patina, giving the surface warmth and depth.
With its long proportions, bold geometric drawing and richly colored floral vocabulary, this piece is an excellent example of late 19th century Hamadan weaving. It would be particularly effective in a hallway, entrance, library or contemporary interior where its strong linear composition can be fully appreciated.
