Antique Kazak Rug
Period: Late 19th Century
Origin: Kazak District, Southwest Caucasus
Dimension: 165 x 243 cm
The design is centered on a vertical column of three large diamond medallions set against a brilliant madder-red field. Each concentric diamond frame is outlined with stepped white teeth and filled with intricate nested geometric motifs, star centers, and latch-hooked inner borders. Flanking the main central column are large, stylized chevron arms and ram’s horn (Koçboynuzu) brackets that create an energetic, architectural rhythm across the entire field.
A quintessential example of classic Caucasian tribal art, this late 19th-century Kazak rug combines monumental geometric symmetry with a brilliant natural color palette. Its ideal medium size and vibrant visual presence make it an extraordinary statement centerpiece for both grand traditional interiors and modern minimalist spaces.
