Antique Khamseh Rug
In the light blue field of this impressive Khamseh, seven trees, their thin trunks decorated with rosettes, V-shaped branches and arrowheads, provide the basic structure in a precisely drawn, zoomorphous repeat featuring large hen-like birds. In line with the principle of the horror vacui, the spaces are densely filled with small decorative motifs. – All five tribal groups of the Khamseh Confederation (Arabi, Baharlu, Ainalu, Bassiri and Nafar) used to weave carpets depicting birds. The style of drawing and light palette indicate that this example is a Baharlu Khamseh weaving. Good overall condition.
