This robust Persian bagface (chanteh), dating to the mid 19th century, is an authentic example of nomadic functional art. Tribal weavings of this period are highly regarded for their lush pile, saturated natural colors, and symbolic motifs that represent the heritage of the weaver’s clan.

The design is organized around a highly stylized central cruciform medallion, framed by four primary motifs that resemble archaic zoomorphic or dragon like figures arranged in a rhythmic, symmetrical layout. These elements are set against a deep navy blue field, which is further animated by small geometric rosettes and protective talismans. The spaciousness of the composition and the bold draftsmanship reflect the high level of technical skill found in mid 19th century tribal workshops.
