Kayseri Silk Carpet
Period: Mid 20th Century
Origin: Kayseri, Turkey
Dimensions: 200 x 310 cm
This magnificent mid 20th century Kayseri carpet represents a peak of artistic refinement and technical excellence in Central Anatolian weaving traditions. Kayseri carpets are world renowned for their sophisticated designs, often inspired by classical Ottoman court aesthetics and refined Persian patterns.
The collection features two distinct and masterful examples of Kayseri artistry. The first is a rare and breathtaking circular carpet, characterized by its exceptional technical precision and elegant floral composition. The design radiates from a central star-like medallion, surrounded by concentric layers of delicate botanical sprays and stylized vine scrolls against a soft terracotta field. This circular form is particularly coveted for its ability to provide a unique sense of visual depth and classical harmony to refined interiors.
The second example is a grand rectangular carpet featuring a sophisticated medallion design set against a luminous ivory field. The central, multi-layered medallion is intricately detailed with floral blossoms and is elegantly balanced by expansive corner spandrels in a deep indigo blue. The field is densely populated with a lush “garden” of interconnected rosettes and delicate flowering vines, reflecting the high-level draftsmanship synonymous with the Kayseri name.
